This section tests a candidate’s proficiency
in English. There are 20% questions out of total 150 questions in this section.
The English section
will test the candidate's proficiency in English based on comprehension
passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be assessed
on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words
used therein, etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect
grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words,
etc.
Chapter 2: Idioms and Phrases: An idiom (also called idiomatic expression) is an expression, word, or phrase that has a figurative meaning conventionally understood by native speakers. This meaning is different from the literal meaning of the idiom's individual elements. In other words, idioms don't mean exactly what the words say.
Phrase is a small group of words standing together as a conceptual unit, typically forming a component of a clause.
Chapter 3: Spotting Errors: Spotting errors are asked in verbal reasoning. You need to spot sentences and error which are grammatically incorrect. This error can be anything. From noun to pronoun to singular/plural to word usage they can be anything.
Chapter 4: Spelling Test: A spelling test is an assessment of a person's (usually a student's) ability to spell words correctly. Spelling tests are usually given in school during language arts class, to see how well each student has learned the most recent spelling lesson.
Chapter 5: Fill in the Blanks & Cloze Test: A cloze test also known as Fill in the blanks is a Sentence Completion Test where you are given with a passage having some blanks. This test analyses your understanding of the passage, i.e. reading comprehension, at the same time assesses your vocabulary and grammatical skills.
Chapter 6: Para-jumbles: Para-jumbles are jumbled paragraphs. Basically, you are given a paragraph - but the sentences are not in the right order. It's up to you to untie this knot and rearrange the sentences so that they logically make sense. Jumble means a paragraph mix up in a confused or untidy way.
Chapter 7: Comprehension: The word comprehension means understanding. When you lack comprehension of a difficult word, you will likely need to look up its definition and usage in a cool, down-to-earth online dictionary! Comprehension actually comes from the Latin term, comprehensionem, which means "a seizing." In the comprehension section candidate will be assessed on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meaning of words used therein, etc.
Chapter 8: Synonyms & Antonyms: A synonym is a word that means exactly the same as, or very nearly the same as, another word in the same language. Note that a synonym may share an identical meaning with another word, but the two words are not necessarily interchangeable.
The Antonyms are words that have contrasting, or opposite, meanings. Like so much of the English language, "antonym" is rooted in the Greek language. The Greek word anti means opposite, while onym means name.
